POTENTIAL NEW LOCATIONS

We are mainly focusing on the following 4 sites at this point:

Flat Creek Crossing

  • Flat Creek Crossing (http://www.txsranch.com/)
  • Location: near Pedernales State Park - 36 mi
  • Cost: ?
  • Food/Kitchen: ?
  • Facilities: For larger family groups, the Ranch sleeps up to 120.
  • Thursday availability?
  • NOTES: "plausable deniability" requirement for conservative neighbors

Camp Texlake

  • Camp Texlake (http://www.gsctx.org/?nd=camp_texlake)
  • Location: Lake Travis, Spicewood - ~35 mi
  • Availability: Feb. 14th weekend only (already tentatively reserved)
  • Cost: depends on facilities rented: Flora/Fauna $350 ea/weekend, $700ea for thurs-sunday night. Starke (possible dining and/or meeting space) - $100/thurs-sunday.
  • Food/Kitchen: full package of catered meals is $28 for Sat (B L D) and Sun (B) and includes use of their nice HUGE dining facility. vegetarian ok, they can't do vegan. Otherwise, we'd be on our own for food prep. there are fridges in the Flora/Fauna units, and microwaves. we could set up propane stoves outside (fire hazard). they do have ice on-site.
  • Facilities: Flora/Fauna each sleeps 48 people - 2 wings, 6 rooms each with 4 beds (2 bunks). each wing has a bathroom with showers. common area has a couch and more seating, sink, microwave, fridge. fire circles, grills, and picnic tables in back. rooms have blinds, but common areas do not.
  • good candidate for future expansion: more facilities that we can rent as we get bigger

Rocky River Ranch

  • Rocky River Ranch (http://www.rockyriverranch.com)
  • Location: Wimberly - 37 miles from Austin
  • Cost: Regular rate : $30/person for the weekend (Friday 3pm – Sunday 11am)
  • Facilities:
  • Food/Kitchen: kitchen rental $100 (per day,weekend?)
  • Thursday availability?
  • NOTES: In order to reserve the entire campsite, a minimum of 100 people must be guaranteed.

Other potential locations:

  • Bonham State Park (http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/bonham/) - NE of Dallas
  • Greene Family Camp (http://greene.urjcamps.org/rentals/) in Bruceville, TX - 83 mi. - no pricing info on website, Benji e-mailed for more info 9/23.
  • UbarU - Kerrville - cabin accommodations for <50 people, dining hall seats 40-50

location-searching sites:

LOCATIONS NO LONGER UNDER CONSIDERATION

  • SpiritHaven, CMA site
    • they just don't have the facilities that we require: sleeping cabins, kitchen/dining facility
  • Parrie Haynes Ranch (run by TPW) / TPW resort ranch
    • just too expensive: Cabins are $300 per night each and sleep 16 people max. The price is per cabin, not per person. We'd need 6 cabins for 98 people (= $1,800 per night). The dining hall is available only if you buy meals from them. They charge $7 for breakfast, $8 for lunch, and $9 for dinner ($24 per day per person).
  • Buescher State Park (http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/buescher/), Smithville, TX - 45 mi. looks like they have cabin space for less than 20 people.

considering nudist-resorts (both pretty far away):

  • live oak (http://www.liveoakresort.com/home1.htm) - washington, tx - 108 mi.
  • lone star (http://lonestarresort.com/) - navasota, tx - 114 mi.

Camp Kachina

  • Camp Kachina (http://www.gsctx.org/?nd=camp_kachina)
  • Location: Lake Belton, Belton - 63 mi
  • Cost: $900 for Thursday afternoon through Sunday night
  • Facilities: sleeps 145 people. we'd have the whole place to ourselves.
  • Food/Kitchen: includes a large octagonal dining hall (big enough for 150 people), but not the use of the kitchen. They don't rent out the kitchen. does not provide any meal service. Crow (PBF09 food coordinator) is thinking about possibilites & requirements.
  • Thursday availability: YES!
  • NOTES: saw it at open house on 10/5 - run-down facilities, not better than Bastrop, not a candidate for expansion. indoor/air-conditioned facilities are minimal, most beds are in screened shelters.
